Tofu Sisig (Sizzling Tofu)

I am very pleased to share with you all this yummy sizzling tofu recipe that you will like for sure! This can be made also into vegan version as well. 🙂


  • 500 grams firm tofu, cut into bite-sized cubes
  • 1/4 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • dash of ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon potato starch
  • vegetable oil for frying
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 teaspoons stir-fry sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • dash of ground black pepper
  • about a teaspoon of brown sugar
  • 1 medium red onion, chopped
  • 1 green chili pepper, sliced thinly
  • juice of half a lemon
  • 1 tablespoon butter


  1. Season the sliced tofu with salt, garlic powder and ground pepper then add the potato starch. Toss to combine. Set aside.
  2. In a deep pan or skillet, heat about two cups of vegetable oil. Once heated, fry the tofu until golden brown. Drain using a pepper towel to remove excess oil, set aside.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine the rest of the ingredients except butter. Mix well before adding the fried tofu.
  4. Heat your sizzling pan under medium heat and before adding the butter. Allow it to melt a bit then add the remaining chopped onions followed by the tofu mixture. Allow the mayonnaise to brown a bit. Enjoy! 🙂


  • If no potato starch is available, corn starch or even all-purpose flour will be fine
  • I was using Kikkoman Stir-fry Sauce and if you can find this, please use it. Otherwise, you can use whatever soy sauce or liquid seasoning available at home
  • No sizzling plate at home? You can use your regular pan or like mine, this cast iron skillet
  • For vegan option, use vegan mayonnaise and vegan or almond butter or even coconut butter
